Be inspired to learn with us in the birthplace of opera!
After the success of our 2017 and 2018 courses we are back in Italy. This intensive weekend consists of in-depth individual and ensemble sessions on Italian arias and recitatives.
At the gorgeous Palazzo Pesce in the beautiful region of Puglia, we will dive deep into the musical aspects of Italian style and tradition in performance, with a special focus on the nuances and beauty of the Italian language.
Participants receive individual coaching/voice sessions as well as an introduction to Matteo Dalle Fratte's research-based method Melofonetica, which has revolutionised how singers learn to sing in Italian. Matteo is the go-to Italian coach for all the major opera houses! We are extraordinarily lucky to have him with us this weekend. Individual work is then developed in performance.
Our internationally acclaimed tutors will be Theresa Goble, mezzo-soprano, Guildhall voice professor, and Vox Integra founder; Beverley Worboys, soprano, producer and voice teacher; Matteo Dalle Fratte, tenor, musicologist and Italian coach; and Michael Pugh, acclaimed pianist, accompanist and coach.
“VOX courses really are unique (compared to other courses/Masterclasses I also attend). They are not only conducted to a high technical standard but it’s the combination of technical critique/input along with the workshop elements and then the bringing together of all these elements in Masterclasses that enable me to take my singing to another level.” - Cristina Pharo
Along with an intense weekend of coaching, there will also be sight-seeing in the beautiful old town of Mola di Bari as well delicious Italian food and drink.
Location: The course will take place in the beautiful Palazzo Pesce,
a fascinating example of a typical eighteenth-century urban villa in Puglia, located in the town of Mola di Bari, which overlooks the sea on the Adriatic coast. The residence is only twenty minutes from Bari airport and one hour from Brindisi.
In 1810, the Palazzo was already owned by the Pesce family, who are responsible for the elegant rooms and the stunning frescoes, as well as the design of the garden, a cool oasis framed by the white calcareous tufa stone. The inner courtyard features many plants, flowers and exotic and citrus fruit trees.
The entire palazzo is open for us to explore.
The Etruscan Room is the main hall of the Palazzo Pesce, with its precious semi-grand piano, frescoed walls and completely restored sofas. This is where we will hold our masterclasses. This precious salon, in the heart of Puglia, has welcomed numerous successful events, with musical guests from all over the world.
Also at our disposal, the Sala Pompeii, a frescoed living room overlooking the immense gardens of Palazzo Pesce, making it particularly luminous. Here is where we will be teaching and gathering for group lessons, such as movement, warm-up and improv.
The villa is not only the perfect venue for our workshop, but it is also a place to be inspired - an oasis for soaking in the beauty and culture of Italy in an authentic 18th century palazzo.
We will be staying in the cozy and quaint Italian style Bed and Breakfasts called Casadamare and Le Case di Sottovento. Both hotels are conveniently located right around the corner from the Palazzo Pesce.
Located in the center of Mola di Bari, these family-run Bed & Breakfasts feature gardens, free bike rental and free Wi-Fi, as well as air-conditioned accommodation, 70 meters from local beaches.
Immersing ourselves in the local culture, is one of the main reasons for holding our courses specifically in Italy, the birthplace of opera. The Italian language and traditions all play a part in the music that was created and inspired here. Awareness of your surroundings and enjoying the atmosphere will enrich and enlarge your understanding, and enable you to embody this into your singing. We encourage you to explore the city, take walks, enjoy a gelato, speak with the locals and just take it all in.
